Public Health Nursing is a Nursing specialty that focuses on Public Health, combining Nursing and Public Health principles.
The role of the Public Health Nurse focuses on the prevention of illnesses, injuries or disabilities, the promotion of health and maintenance of health of the population.
EDOCNS leveraged on the mandate received from NBTE to commence ND program and NMCN permission to transfer the existing Public Health Nursing Program from Edo State School of Health Technology (EDOSHT) to EDOCNS to offer a Post Basic Public Health Nursing Program.
EDOCNS programs prepares students for the challenges of modern health care through its overall emphasis on skills development in the areas of data analysis and assessment, policy development and program planning, communication, health equity, community partnership, public health sciences, management and finance, leadership, systems thinking, trans-cultural nursing, ethics, research, use of technology and the application of knowledge and skills in practice settings.

The EDOCNS Public Health Nursing programme focuses on these essential elements to produce specialist Nurses that shall meet the calling of Public Health Nursing.
Summarily, the students shall be equipped for improved excellent clinical skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, problem solving skills and ability to adapt including capacity to collaborate with different professionals.
This programme is designed to prepare competent, skilled, polyvalent Public Health Nurses who will use problem-solving skills in providing safe, acceptable, effective and affordable quality health services to meet the health needs of individuals, families and communities at all levels of care
Interested candidate must have a credit pass in at least five subjects at the GCE/WAEC/NECO not more than two sittings. The subjects must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English Language and Applicants with the following qualifications may be considered for admission into the Higher National Diploma Nursing program:
The HND Nursing programme is structured to last for two (2) academic years.
It shall consist of four (4) semesters of classroom, laboratory, demonstration and clinic/hospital activities.
Each semester shall be of 17 weeks duration, made up of 15 contact weeks of teaching (i.e. lectures, tutorials and practical sessions, etc.) and 2 weeks for examinations.
It may include, a one year of hospital/clinical attachment at the end of the second semester of HND II.
