EDOCNS leveraged on the mandate received from NBTE to commence ND program and NMCN permission to transfer the existing Public Health Nursing Program from Edo State School of Health Technology (EDOSHT) to EDOCNS to offer a Post Basic Public Health Nursing Program.

EDOCNS programs prepares students for the challenges of modern health care through its overall emphasis on skills development in the areas of data analysis and assessment, policy development and program planning, communication, health equity, community partnership, public health sciences, management and finance, leadership, systems thinking, trans-cultural nursing, ethics, research, use of technology and the application of knowledge and skills in practice settings.

The overall program outcomes will include the graduates’ ability to:

1. Integrate and apply concepts and knowledge from liberal education including the humanities, behavioral, and natural sciences for nursing care across the lifespan and within the continuum of health care environments.
2. Incorporate cultural understanding in the role of the nurse educator and provide leadership to influence health care policy, health care delivery, financing, and funding for nursing and health education.
3. Apply leadership concepts and communication skills within inter-professional teams and healthcare systems to collaboratively manage patient/client care quality and safety.
4. Use information about health care policy, finance, and trends in health care delivery to develop interventions to improve the health of individuals and populations.
5. Evaluate sources of evidence-based practice including research and other scholarly works for application in professional nursing practice.
6. Demonstrate professionalism and professional values within the scope of a multicultural changing society.
7. Utilize conceptual frameworks to analyze health data and behaviors to facilitate health promotion and disease prevention for optimal population health.
8. Utilize multiple technologies to access and manage information to guide professional practice.
9. Examine the effect that healthcare policy has upon providers and consumers in the health care system.
10. Manage school-based clinics.
11. Immunize children, women and men against prevailing communicable diseases.
12. Inspect food vendors and ensure safe and healthy environment.
13. Plan with and guide families and communities on the methods necessary to achieving and maintain healthy lifestyle.
14. Assess, manage and provide supportive services in the rehabilitation of groups with special health needs.

The EDOCNS Public Health Nursing programme focuses on these essential elements to produce specialist Nurses that shall meet the calling of Public Health Nursing.

Summarily, the students shall be equipped for improved excellent clinical skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, problem solving skills and ability to adapt including capacity to collaborate with different professionals.
